What Other People Think About You
This is a cause of anxiety, social phobia, panic
attacks, anxiety attacks... the lot.
And it's even simple to understand. If you place
too much importance on what others think about you,
you will start to be anxious and fear their opinion.
And when you do, you will be affraid to faint, throw
up, have shortness of breath, get a red face... in
front of them.
See how it's linked up?
If you could honestly belief: 'I don't care if I
faint in front of these people', you wouldn't have
anxiety attacks of agoraphobia in most cases.
There are exceptions of course. People that get attacks
when they have to drive through tunnels etc. are less
likely to be influenced by the opinion of others,
but the list of exceptions is short.
Some people like you, others won't. You shouldn't
care too much about what others think. You can save
yourself a lot of trouble doing so.
Here in Belgium, I give personal coaching. Many people
I meet for the first time are afraid of me. They're
afraid of everybody, so this is quite normal. But
you see, it is my opinion they are afraid off. This
is the first thing I have to get them to overcome,
because they have to 'let me in' fully.
For some, this opinion caring goes far. Some can't
go empty the mailbox without getting all dressed up.
You know, what if the neighbours could see me?
Some always polish their houses/cars/... what if
someone thinks I'm messy?
If you recognise yourself in these examples, you
can be sure you've laid the foundation for agoraphobia,
panic attacks etc. Chances are you already have them.
In one of my audio files, I will explain how you
can overcome your fear of other people's opinions.
But the first step has been taken, and that is realising
that caring too much about the opinion of others will
harm you.
